Impossible to reach the enclosures in Outlook, the files * exe by default are blocked
OL2002: Impossible to reach the enclosures applies to Ancien nº
publication of this article: IMPORTANT F290497: this article contains
information on the modification of the Register. Before modifying the
Register, you ensure that you can restore it in the event of problem.
For more information on the procedure to be followed, consult the
heading assistance "To restore the Register" in Regedit.exe or "To
restore a key of Register" in Regedt32.exe.
Résumé Outlook
2002 includes/understands a new function of safety which prohibits the
access to the enclosures considered as being dangerous If you receive
an electronic message containing a file of the prohibited type, the
following warning message is posted:
Outlook prohibited the
access to the following enclosures, potentially dangerous: [... ]

Although the access to the enclosure is prohibited, the
enclosure figure always in the message. This article presents the
procedure to be followed to reach the enclosure, if necessary. More
information This function of safety offers a level of protection
additional against the malevolent electronic messages. If updates
exist for the former versions of Microsoft Outlook, this function of safety
per defect is implemented in Outlook 2002.

Follow one
of the procedures recommended hereafter to reach the enclosure: Ask
the recipient to publish or record the enclosure on a file sharing and
to send the corresponding bond to you. Ask the recipient to use a
utility of compression of files to change the extension of file. To
obtain the list of the products of third compression, consult the
following article of the Base of Microsoft knowledge:
291637
OL2002: The enclosures are not compressed by Outlook
Ask the
recipient to re-elect the extension of file and to send it to you once
that you receive the famous enclosure, you can restore the extension
of origin. If the methods recommended above are not appropriate, use
one of the two following methods: If you work in an environment
Microsoft Exchange Server and that your administrator configured the
parameters of safety of Microsoft Outlook, ask the administrator to modify
the parameters of safety of your letter-box. If you do not work in an
environment Exchange Server, modify the Register to personalize the
parameters of safety of the enclosures (you defer to the
Personnalisation section of the parameters of safety of the enclosures
of this article for more information). Personalization of the
parameters of safety of the enclosures WARNING: all misuse of the
Editor of the Register can generate serious problems, being able to
oblige you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that the problems resulting from a misuse of the Editor of
the Register can be solved. You assume the whole of the risks related
to the use of this tool.

For more information on the
procedure to be followed to modify the Register, consult the heading
of assistance "Modification of the keys and the values" in the Editor
of the Register (Regedit.exe) or the headings of assistance "Addition
and suppression of information in the Register" and "Modification of
the data of Register" in Regedt32.exe. Think of safeguarding the
Register before modifying it. If you work under Windows NT or Windows
2000, we advise you to update your diskette of emergency repair.

You can modify the options of safety of the enclosures
in Outlook 2002 if you use Outlook in one of the following cases of
figure: Outlook is carried out apart from the environment Exchange
Server. In an environment Exchange Server, the administrator did not
configure the parameters of Outlook safety to prohibit the
modifications of the options of safety of the enclosures. In these
cases of figure, modify the options of safety of the enclosures by
modifying the Register. With this intention, follow the procedure
hereafter. Fermez Outlook 2002 if it is open. Click on the Démarrer
button of Windows, then on Exécuter. In the zone To open, type
regedit, then click on OK. Check if the following key exists. In this
case, pass at stage 5.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security

If the access path of the key does not exist, create it. For
that, sail to the key and select it:

the Register. Start again your computer. When you start Outlook 2002,
you can reach the types of files specified in the Register of Windows.

NOTE:: Microsoft recommends to authorize the access
only to the types of files necessary. If you receive only seldom a
type of file, authorize Outlook 2002 temporarily to reach this type of
file, then prohibit it again by cancelling the modifications made to
the Register of Windows. Environment Microsoft Exchange Server If you
use Outlook in an environment Exchange Server, your administrator can
modify the options of safety of the enclosures by defect. For more
information on the configuration of Microsoft Outlook 2002 in this
environment, consult the following article in the Base of Microsoft
knowledge:

administrators on the functions of safety of electronic messaging

Behavior of the joined coins the joined coins
are classified in three groups according to their extension of file or
their type. Outlook treats each group in a different way: Level 1

dangerous" includes/understands the extensions suitable for be
associated a script or a code. It is impossible for you to reach the
enclosures whose extension is considered to be "potentially dangerous"
if you use a version of Microsoft Outlook to which the corrective measure
was applied. The following list presents the enclosures considered as
potentially dangerous.

The following list presents the way in which Outlook functions
when you receive an enclosure "potentially dangerous": It is
impossible to reach the enclosures "potentially dangerous" after the
installation of the update. You cannot record, remove, open, print nor
to use in any other way the "potentially dangerous" files. The higher
part of the electronic message indicates than Microsoft Outlook prohibits
the access to the enclosure "potentially dangerous"; if it is
impossible to reach the enclosure starting from Microsoft Outlook, the
enclosure is however not removed an electronic message. If you
transfer an electronic message comprising an enclosure "potentially
dangerous", the file is not joined to the electronic message. If you
send an electronic message containing an enclosure "potentially
dangerous", a warning message is posted, indicating that the other
Outlook recipients will not be able to reach the enclosure which you
send. You can be unaware of the warning message and send the
electronic message or decide not to send the message. If you record or
close an electronic message containing an enclosure "potentially
dangerous", a warning message is posted, indicating that you will not
be able to reach the enclosure starting from Microsoft Outlook. You can be
unaware of the warning message and record the electronic message. You
cannot open objects inserted in messages Outlook Rich Text using the
Insérer order an object. A visual representation of the object is
posted, but you cannot open nor to activate the object in the
electronic message. You cannot open "potentially dangerous" files
stored directly in a file Outlook or Exchange Server. Although these
files are not joined to a Outlook element, they nevertheless are
regarded as "potentially dangerous". The error message according to is
posted in this case:
Impossible to open the element. Outlook
blocked the access to this virtually dangerous element. Level the 2
files of level 2 are not regarded as being "potentially dangerous" but
require a level of safety higher than other enclosures. When you
receive an enclosure of level 2, you are invited to record it on a
disc; you cannot open the enclosure directly since the message. By
defect, no extension of file is associated this group. You can however
add extensions of files to the list of level 2.

NOTE::
you can only modify the list of the files included in the category of
level 2 if you use Outlook in an environment Microsoft Exchange
Server and if your mail arrives in a letter-box Exchange Server. An
administrator must make these modifications. Other enclosures When you
try to open an enclosure other that those defined in the lists of
"potentially dangerous" files or level 2, you are invited to open the
file directly or to record it on a reader. To decontaminate this
invites so that it is not posted thereafter any more in the case of
this extension, decontaminate the check box Toujours to inform before
opening this type of files.

NOTE:: if a program joins
a new extension automatically, the extension is then regarded as "an
other" enclosure until to you add it to the list of the "potentially
dangerous" files. Let us suppose for example that you install on your
computer a program whose files carry the xyz. extension Each time you
open an enclosure carrying this extension, the new program opens and
carries out the latter. By defect, the extension of xyz file does not
form part of the list of the "potentially dangerous" files or level 2;
it is thus regarded as "an other" extension of file. If you wish that
the enclosures carrying the extension of xyz file be regarded as
"potentially dangerous", you must add the extension to the list of the
"potentially dangerous" extensions. The information contained in this
